The Story

Daredevil debuted in Daredevil #1, cover-dated April 1964, from writer Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett. Matt Murdock was blinded as a boy by a radioactive spill that also supercharged his four remaining senses and gave him a radar sense that maps the world without sight. He grew up to be a Hell's Kitchen defense attorney by day and a masked vigilante by night, the same street-level corner of Marvel that Spider-Man patrols. Frank Miller's late-1970s run redefined him with Elektra and the Kingpin, and the Netflix and Disney+ series pulled Matt Murdock back into the mainstream, which is the wave this drop rode into.

VeVe tags this piece First Appearance, its marker that a collectible is the character's genuine debut on the platform. The Man Without Fear made that collectible debut on October 6, 2022, and it moved fast.

The sculpt catches Matt Murdock in full battle-ready mode: deep red suit, crouched low with billy clubs in hand, coiled like he just caught a sound two rooftops away. The suit has a leathery, armored finish that nods to both comic and screen versions, with the "DD" emblem on the chest and the small red horns on the cowl. The clubs in both hands read as extensions of his acrobatic fighting style.

The Drop

The first Daredevil collectible dropped on October 6, 2022 on VeVe Collectibles, priced at $50 for 5,800 editions, and it sold the same day. By late 2022, VeVe had already released dozens of Marvel characters, so Daredevil filled a gap collectors had been vocal about.

The timing lined up with the boost from the Disney+ Daredevil series, which pulled Matt Murdock back into the mainstream conversation.

Market Context

5,800 editions puts Daredevil on the lower end of VeVe's Marvel supply range, which usually works in a collectible's favor. Compare that to Storm at 40,650 or Black Panther at 58,000, and Daredevil is far scarcer, which matters for a character with this much name recognition. The circulating float is tighter still: VeVe lists only about 2,461 in circulation against 3,339 burned, so more than half the print run has been permanently destroyed. Fewer live copies chasing the same demand is exactly the setup collectors want.

The first status is permanent: no matter how many Daredevil variants VeVe releases later, this October 2022 drop will always be the original. All VeVe collectibles now live on the Collect blockchain after the January 2026 migration, with secondary trading through VeVe's in-app market and the StackR marketplace (live since April 2025).

Collector's Note

Daredevil has always had a dedicated fanbase, even when he was not headlining movies. The Frank Miller runs, the Bendis era, the Netflix series: each generation finds its way to Matt Murdock. If you collect first-appearance Marvel pieces, skipping Daredevil would leave a hole in the set, right next to another street-level name like Ghost Rider.
