The Story

The first Spider-Man NFT dropped on VeVe Collectibles on August 7, 2021, and it was not just any release: it was Marvel's first NFT, period. Marvel chose Spider-Man to lead because he is their most universally recognizable character.

The collection launched with five versions, each more limited than the last, and every tier moved quickly. This drop marked the start of Marvel and Disney's move into NFTs, opening the door for everything from Captain America to the Fantastic Four.

The Drop

The launch told the whole story in its speed: all 60,500 editions moved in under 24 hours, generating over $4M in revenue in a single day. For context, VeVe had been running about 10 months with DC characters at that point. Marvel showing up validated the platform in a way nothing else could, and it opened the door for every Marvel character that followed on VeVe.

The Five Variants

The Modern Marvel Spider-Man drop ran five poses of the web-slinger, each pulled at longer odds as the tier climbs. The classic crouch was the easy get, the animated sculpts were the chase.

Amazing Spider-Man

Spidey crouched low and ready to spring, the pose every fan knows. The red-and-blue suit is packed with detail, from the webbing on the mask and arms to the black spider on his chest, and the white eyes give him that locked-in look. The base pose and the most available way in, with the highest edition count of the set.

Hangin' Out

Uncommon16,000

Spidey hanging upside down without a care, flashing a peace sign. Less about action, more about attitude, striking a between-fights photo-op pose. From this angle you catch the full suit detail, right down to the bottom of his boots. The uncommon step up from the base crouch.

Jump into Action

Spidey caught mid-swing, crouched with one hand pulled back and the other stretched forward in the classic web-shooting pose. The suit details stay crisp, and the whole piece is about momentum, a hero right before the action kicks off. This is where the supply starts to tighten.

Animated

Ultra Rare2,500

The first animated tier, a moving sculpt that opens with a smooth acrobatic spin showing off his agility, then shifts into the upside-down hang and a peace sign. Classic friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, cool under pressure. The first of the two animated pulls.

Ultimate Animated

Secret Rare1,000

The top of the series. The animation starts with the Ultra Rare spin, then advances into a dynamic leap forward and the classic web-shooting motion, fingers splaying into the web-slinging position as the lines release. At just 1,000 editions and the longest odds, this is the chase piece of the drop.

Edition Breakdown

Market Context

This is Marvel's genesis NFT, the first time Marvel put any character on the blockchain as an official collectible, and that status is permanent. The tiered structure creates useful supply dynamics: 32,000 Commons mean plenty of liquidity at the floor, while 1,000 Secret Rares mean genuine scarcity at the top.

With VeVe's Collect blockchain migration (January 2026) and the StackR marketplace for OMI trading (live since April 2025), these assets are more liquid and portable than they were at launch. Spider-Man's own corner of the catalog runs deep too, from Venom and Carnage to Miles Morales and the Amazing Fantasy #15 comic where he first appeared.

Collector's Note
