Four people take an experimental spaceflight, get hit with cosmic radiation, and come back changed. Reed Richards can stretch, Sue Storm turns invisible and throws force fields, her brother Johnny Storm bursts into flame, and pilot Ben Grimm is locked inside a rocky orange body. Fantastic Four #1, cover-dated November 1961, from writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, put all four on the page for the first time and set the Marvel Universe in motion.
