The Story

Piotr Rasputin debuted in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975), the same issue that introduced Storm and the rest of the "all-new, all-different" X-Men, created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum. He grew up a farm boy in Soviet Ukraine before discovering he could turn his body into organic steel, a power that trades speed for near-invulnerability and enough raw strength to anchor the team's front line.

What separates Colossus from most strongman characters is the gentleness underneath the metal. He paints, he worries about his family back home, and he has spent five decades as one of the X-Men's most dependable teammates rather than its loudest. VeVe's set leans into that range, sculpting him across three distinct comic eras instead of flattening him into one pose.

Every piece in the set carries VeVe's First Appearance tag, its marker that a collectible is the character's genuine platform debut. That covers his original Giant-Size X-Men look, the cosmic-powered Phoenix Five arc, and a mid-80s Secret Wars II redesign, three very different chapters of the same character.

Edition Breakdown

That is 2,525 editions total, with 150 withheld and none burned yet since this is a fresh drop. The Uncanny X-Men 1975 Special Edition is the real chase piece here, its 75-count print run already carrying a market floor well above the $30 retail, while the base Phoenix variant makes up the bulk of the box at 1,975 editions.

Market Context

This was a Season 12 drop under VeVe's Marvel license, carrying the standard 8.50% market fee. Because it only released July 19, 2026, none of the 150 withheld editions have burned yet, so current scarcity comes entirely from the mint counts and pull odds rather than any post-launch burn.

Colossus fills a real gap in VeVe's Marvel lineup. Storm, Professor X, Magneto, and Wolverine all had their platform debuts years earlier, so this is one of the last major original X-Men names to get a proper first. That "late arrival" status, plus the small Special Edition run, gives the set more built-in collector interest than a typical new-character drop.

Collector's Note

For X-Men collectors, this set finally puts Colossus alongside the teammates he debuted with in 1975. Storm has held the "first X-Men NFT" title on VeVe since 2021, and this drop gives Piotr Rasputin his own place in that same lineup, decades after the fact.
