The Story

Ben Reilly first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #149, cover-dated October 1975, created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Ross Andru. He is a clone of Peter Parker, introduced during the original 1970s clone story and long presumed dead. Ben returned in the 1990s Clone Saga, took the name Scarlet Spider, and for a stretch actually became Spider-Man himself while Peter stepped away. He carries every ability Peter has, the wall-crawling, the reflexes, the spider-sense, because he is a genetic copy of the original.

The costume on this drop points to a more recent era. Marvel's 2021 Beyond storyline put Ben Reilly back in the Spider-Man role with a newly designed suit, and the "Beyond Spider-Man" variant here draws directly from that run. He sits in the same wall-crawler lineage as the first Spider-Man NFT and the first Miles Morales NFT, all of them people who have carried the mask.

VeVe tags both pieces First Appearance, its marker that a collectible is the character's genuine debut on the platform. The base "Acrobatic Arachnid" is the Uncommon tier, and the Ultra Rare "Beyond Spider-Man" is the low-count chase that makes this NYCC exclusive stand out.

The Two Variants

The blind box held two sculpts of Ben Reilly. The Uncommon was the base pull at strong odds; the Ultra Rare was a genuine long shot.

Edition Breakdown

TierEditionsCover
Uncommon5,384Acrobatic Arachnid, base sculpt
Ultra Rare616Beyond Spider-Man, chase

6,000 total editions across two tiers, but the split is what matters: the Ultra Rare is barely a tenth the size of the base, at 616 editions. Burns are minimal on this set (the Uncommon shows only 3 burned and the Ultra Rare none), so the mint counts are close to the live supply, and that 616 figure is genuinely scarce for a Marvel first.

Market Context

The NYCC exclusive tag and the tiny Ultra Rare count give this set a different profile than a standard blind box. The market fee on secondary sales runs 8.5%, standard for VeVe. Ben Reilly is a fan-favorite among Spider-Man readers rather than a mass-market name, so demand is driven by collectors who know the Clone Saga and the Beyond run, and it concentrates hard on that 616-edition chase.

The first status is permanent. No matter how many Ben Reilly pieces VeVe releases later, this October 2021 exclusive will always be the original. All VeVe collectibles now live on the Collect blockchain after the January 2026 migration, and StackR has been live since April 2025, so both variants are easier to buy and sell now than they were at launch.

Collector's Note

For collectors chasing every wearer of the Spider-Man mask, Ben Reilly is a key piece, alongside the first Spider-Man NFT and the first Miles Morales NFT. The NYCC exclusive framing adds an event-collectible angle that most VeVe firsts do not have.

The Ultra Rare "Beyond Spider-Man" is the clear prize here: 616 editions is a low number in any Marvel context, and it is the piece most likely to appreciate. Both variants trade on the VeVe secondary market, and the Uncommon sometimes lists near or below the original $50 retail. New to VeVe? Grab $10 off your first purchase

6,000 total editions across two tiers, but the Ultra Rare "Beyond Spider-Man" is only 616 editions, one of the lowest counts in VeVe's Spider-Man lineup. Burns are minimal, so the mint counts closely match the live supply.

Ben Reilly is a clone of Peter Parker who first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #149 in 1975. He later became the Scarlet Spider and, at times, Spider-Man himself, including in Marvel's 2021 Beyond storyline that this collectible's costume is drawn from.

Yes. Both variants are available from other collectors on the VeVe secondary market and StackR marketplace. The 616-edition Ultra Rare is the scarcer and pricier of the two.

It launched on Ethereum and now lives on the Collect blockchain following VeVe's completed migration in January 2026.
