The Story
Throg's roots go back to Walter Simonson's celebrated run on Thor, where issues #364 to #366 (1986) turned the God of Thunder into a frog in Central Park, the storyline fans still call the Frog of Thunder. The actual character named Throg came later: Simon Walterson, a grieving man magically turned into a frog, earned a sliver of Thor's enchanted hammer, forged it into a weapon called Frogjolnir, and became a thunder god in amphibian form. He debuted in Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1, cover-dated June 2009, from writer and artist Chris Eliopoulos.
Throg leads a clan of Central Park frogs and stands as a full member of the Pet Avengers, the team of animal heroes that has crossed paths with the mad Titan Thanos and worse. He carries super strength, durability, and the power to summon lightning, all of it scaled down to a creature you could hold in one hand.
