The Story
The Green Goblin shows up fully formed in this issue: purple costume, goblin mask, flying broomstick glider, and a bag of trick pumpkin bombs, going after Spider-Man to prove himself to New York's criminal underworld before Spidey has any idea who is under the mask. The Goblin manipulates the Hulk into the fight as a wildcard, forcing Spider-Man to deal with both a new enemy and an old, much bigger problem at once. This is the character's costumed debut only. His civilian identity as industrialist Norman Osborn is not revealed here; that reveal does not land until Amazing Spider-Man #39-40 in 1966, drawn by John Romita Sr.
