The Story

R5-D4, nicknamed "Red," first appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in 1977. He is the astromech the Jawas try to sell to Owen Lars, the sale that gets cancelled the instant his motivator blows in a shower of sparks, which is the only reason R2-D2 ends up in the Lars household and the whole saga gets moving. A background droid with about ten seconds of screen time who quietly changed the trajectory of the galaxy. Red later resurfaced in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, parked in Peli Motto's hangar on Mos Eisley, which gave the old droid a second life with a newer audience.

VeVe tags this piece First Appearance, its label for a character's genuine debut on the platform. The figure renders Red in full color 3D: the flat-topped dome, the red-and-white paneling, the single primary photoreceptor, all faithful to the New Hope design.
