The Story
Toph Beifong is the greatest earthbender alive and she is blind. Born into the wealthy Beifong family, who treated her disability as something to hide indoors, Toph learned to bend in secret by studying badgermoles, the original earthbenders, and reading vibrations through the ground with her bare feet. That skill let her see the world in a way sighted benders never could, and it turned her into a prodigy her own parents never knew existed.
She joins Team Avatar in Book Two: Earth, initially as Aang's earthbending teacher, and never once softens her personality to fit in. Blunt, stubborn, and allergic to being underestimated, Toph is often the funniest and toughest member of the group at the same time. She later becomes the inventor of metalbending, a skill no one thought was possible, which cements her as one of the most respected characters in the franchise.
