The Ninja Turtle Set, Now With Master Splinter

The sensei completes the family

VeVe rolled the Turtles out one at a time, and the sequencing was not the one you would guess. Michelangelo went first in November 2025, not Leonardo. Then Leonardo in January, Raphael in April, and Donatello in July, which left the brains of the crew waiting longest for his own drop. For most of that stretch the set had an obvious hole: no Splinter, the character who trained all four and sits at the center of every version of the story from the 1984 Mirage comic forward. The August box closes it, and it is the first series under this license built around someone other than one of the four brothers.

Every variant across all five series carries the First Appearance tag in the VeVe app. That field is the thing that separates a genuine first from a character's later re-release, and it is stamped on all eighteen variants here. There is no ambiguity about any of the five.

The four turtles, side by side

All four turtle boxes were built to the same blueprint. Same price, same edition split, same three sculpts, first available edition starting at #6 with 110 editions held back at launch. The only thing that moves between them is the pull odds, and only by rounding.

Pull odds sit at roughly 1 in 1.18 for a Classic, 1 in 7.6 to 1 in 7.9 for an IncogNinja, and 1 in 45 for the Special Edition. Nothing has been burned in any of the four series, so those counts are also the live supply, minus what VeVe withheld.

The 87 edition anomaly

This is the part that trips people up on the turtle side. The greyscale Classic is labelled Special Edition, and in the app's rarity hierarchy that reads as less important than Ultra Rare. The edition counts say otherwise. There are 487 IncogNinjas per turtle and 87 greyscales. The "lesser" tier is more than five times scarcer.

The art is a direct reference: greyscale sculpt, red bandana, pointing back at the 1984 Eastman and Laird debut where all four brothers wore red and the color-coded masks had not been invented yet. Raphael is the one who kept his red permanently, which makes his greyscale the least visually distinct of the four. Each one is the same pose as that turtle's Classic sculpt, stripped of color and given a comic-inked finish, so the two read as a matched pair when you hold both.

Splinter changes the ceiling

Where every turtle box ran three sculpts, the Master Splinter box runs six, and it covers the full range of the character: the parent, the teacher, the meditator, and the fighter. It follows the Season 12 format at the same box price, first available edition #6, with 195 editions withheld at launch and nothing burned. Two of the six are Special Editions with mint counts in the double digits, and that is where the box separates from everything the turtles offered.

Idle animation, and a tap makes Splinter open his eyes. At 28 editions it is the smallest mint across all five series.

Read the labels twice. Black & White carries a Common-adjacent Special Edition tag but only 87 exist, so it pulls harder than the Ultra Rare Combat Training. Zen Pose at 28 editions and about 1 in 199 is the tightest piece in the box by a wide margin. Where each turtle box had a single sub-100 tier, Splinter has two, which is why the family's scarcity ceiling moved when he arrived.

Which piece do you start with?

If you want the cheapest way in: a plain turtle Classic. With 2,987 of the 3,561 editions in every turtle box being the Classic sculpt, supply is deep and copies list on the VeVe secondary market at or below the original box price once collectors open boxes and move their extras. The first Raphael Classic has been one of the more accessible first appearances in this archive.

If you want the one that completes the story: Master Splinter Father Figure. He is the reason the other four exist as a team, and completion pressure on a five character family is real once you already hold the turtles.

If you want the piece that concentrates the scarcity: the Splinter Zen Pose at 28 editions, or any of the 87 edition greyscales if you want that parallel across all five. Those are the counts that actually separate this set.

Building the full family

A complete five character run at the base tier, four turtle Classics plus a Splinter Father Figure, is the realistic goal for most collectors, and it stays one of the more achievable complete first-appearance families in this archive. All five anchor tiers carry deep supply.

A full greyscale run is a different proposition. You would need four turtle Special Editions at 87 each plus the Splinter Black & White at 87, one per character, and assembling all five is a genuine hunt rather than a purchase. Anyone holding all five has something close to unique.

The top of the family now sits with Splinter. Zen Pose at 28 editions and Battle Ready at 287 give the sensei two scarcity tiers the turtles never had, so the hardest single piece to land across the whole run is no longer a turtle at all.
