The Story

The hat comes from "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," the centerpiece segment of Fantasia, the Walt Disney animated feature released in November 1940. In it, Mickey Mouse plays an apprentice who borrows the pointed blue-and-star hat of the sorcerer Yen Sid, enchants a broom to haul water for him, and quickly loses control as the broom multiplies and floods the workshop. The segment set Paul Dukas's orchestral piece to animation and remains one of the most referenced scenes Disney has ever produced.

Mickey Mouse himself was created by Walt Disney and animator Ub Iwerks and first appeared in the 1928 short Steamboat Willie, which makes him the founding character of the studio. The Sorcerer's Hat later grew into a broader symbol of Disney magic: a hat-shaped structure stood at the center of Disney's Hollywood Studios park for well over a decade. So while this piece is a prop rather than a character, it points searchers straight to Fantasia and to Mickey's most recognized on-screen role.

At 6,333 editions the Sorcerer's Hat is the scarcer piece in its two-item set, with $60 list pricing and pull odds near 1 in 2.96. Editions numbered from #41 after the first 40 were withheld. Secondary sales on VeVe carry an 8.5% market fee covering the licensor and platform shares. Compared with other Golden Moments runs, such as the 12,333-edition Iron Man or the 10,333-edition WALL-E, the hat sits toward the tighter end of supply.

Market Context

The appeal here is symbolic reach. The Fantasia scene is among the most widely recognized in animation, and the hat stands in for Disney magic as a concept rather than a single film.
