The Story
The DeLorean time machine debuted in Back to the Future in 1985, when Doc Brown converted a stainless-steel DMC DeLorean into a time-travel vehicle powered by a flux capacitor. The rule was simple and unforgettable: hit 88 miles per hour with 1.21 gigawatts of power and the car jumps through time. The gull-wing doors, the exposed reactor hardware bolted to the back, and the digital time circuits on the dash turned an obscure early-1980s sports car into one of the most recognizable vehicles in film.
Across the trilogy the DeLorean ran on plutonium, then on a Mr. Fusion unit fed by household garbage, and eventually gained the flight and hover conversion from the future in Back to the Future Part II.
